Dragonlance: Dragons of Autumn Twilight Movie

I posted about this almost a year ago. Well, it's finally out. And it's terrible. Worse than the first D&D movie. At least it's animated. Still, you should avoid it unless you're really into Dragonlance or you've got some time to waste watching a crappy animated movie that's on par with the animated Hobbit movie.

Welcome to the future of Theatergoing…

with the new and improved abusive search before you see the movie, as a consequence of New, Improved and Stupider laws passed by the Canadian government after having caved to the Americans. The movie industry can't even keep their FUD straight.

On top of:

  • Sticky bathroom floors
  • Overpriced food ($10 for a 6'' pizza!)
  • Grainy/Blurry theatre screens

Dragonlance Chronicles Movie

Of all the places I could have found out about this, the Scary Devil Monastary was the last place I would have expected.

A movie based on the Dragonlance Chronicles novel 'Dragons of Autumn Twilight' is currently in post-production. In a nutshell, that's news to me. but according to Wikipedia it's a direct-to-video and is animated..

American Psycho (2000)

Some spoilers, but nothing too terrible....

Normally I don't like to watch horror movies unless there's some overriding reason to do so (e.g. some of the classic horror films). But Tasha wanted to see this, so I obliged. While it didn't have a beginning that pulled you in (much like Into the Blue), I decided to give it a chance.

Movie Trailers

Has anyone other than me noticed a severe lack of movie trailers telling you what a movie is about?. Before I go see a movie, that's what I want to know, and is often the deciding factor in why I would go see one.

If the MPAA wants to attract more people to the theatres, they're going to have to do a better job with their advertising.

Zombie Movie Weekend

After spending the long weekend watching several zombie movies (28 Days Later, the latest version of Dawn of the Dead, and the original Day of the Dead) I'm not sure I have that much more respect for them.

However, the fact that I watched the original Day of the Dead was interesting - it was far more '70's in scope'. It wasn't very scary, but did put a lot of tension into the plot. The growing insanity of the lab-coated scientists was rather worrysome. It was far more gory than scary. It was particularly gory near the end as the zombies tore their human prey apart....

Honestly, I was suprised. I had hoped that this movie would do the spiderman story justice, and I was right. It's an emotional wringer too.

Starship Troopers 2

The old reviews continue...

First of all, it was a direct-to-video release.. what does that say about it?

Second, the acting was certainly not well-done: but that's what you get most of the time when you use unknowns. The majority of the actors serve better as eye candy anyways.

The Village

The first of many. Slightly edited from my slashdot journal to remove things that are no longer relevent.

My advice: don't try to figure out what the plot twists are in advance: you'll be happier that way. Not that they're obvious of course, but I consider being suprised one of the benefits of seeing movies like this.

While I do enjoy suspense movies, I don't like gore-fests. They really aren't enjoyable. I think the last one I enjoyed was Freddy vs Jason, and that was OK only because it was so horribly inane.

National Treasure

Spoiler Note: Contains nothing that you wouldn't get from the teaser trailers.

I'd originally seen this in the theatre, but recently got a chance to watch it again. It's made by Disney, unfortunately, but as a consequence it's a bit more family-friendly than your normal action movie. That doesn't mean it's any less fun. What it means is that you'll have to live without gallons of blood and sucking gunshot wounds.
